"A USA Fencing membership is required by all individual members of USA Fencing Member Clubs who utilize the USA Fencing insurance program. Competitive memberships are required to compete in any USA Fencing sanctioned event (exception are Access members. They can compete in local tournaments without upgrading.) The membership year coincides with the fencing season, which occurs between August 1 and the following July 31. Membership dues are not prorated at any time. Any new, expired (more than 3 years) or upgraded membership purchased beginning April 1 of the current season is valid until July 31 of the following season." [USA Fencing website]
Everyone at FIT who is involved with working with minors must have at least an Access membership with Check-Ed addition, a valid Background screening, and complete SafeSport training. This includes Coaches, staff, Board of Directors, volunteers for tournament armory, bout committee, and registration, Referees, and any adult assisting with minors at FIT or FIT tournaments. This also includes parents who help with classes.

SafeSport was mandated by Congress during the Gymnastic and Swimming scandals. All Olympic Sports fall under the SafeSport requirements. In order to maintain a transparent communication system, our coaches are not allowed to contact a minor student directly by phone, text, or email. All communications go through our GroupMe system and all transmissions are viewable by our Administration at any time.
Coaches send out general information to their students via their class code; FIT Administration sends out club-wide information concerning things like inclement weather closures etc. to General Membership. You should join both.
Students under the age of 18 should not text or email their coach directly, nor should an adult unrelated to the student email or text a minor student without copying the parent or FIT Admin. You may download the GroupMe App from your app store for free.
