Step 1: Join USA Fencing

Membership is required by our National Governing Body for all participants at FIT

"A USA Fencing membership is required by all individual members of USA Fencing Member Clubs who utilize the USA Fencing insurance program. Competitive memberships are required to compete in any USA Fencing sanctioned event (exception are Access members.  They can compete in local tournaments without upgrading.) The membership year coincides with the fencing season, which occurs between August 1 and the following July 31. Membership dues are not prorated at any time.  Any new, expired (more than 3 years) or upgraded membership purchased beginning April 1 of the current season is valid until July 31 of the following season." [USA Fencing website]

Everyone at FIT who is involved with working with minors must have at least an Access membership with Check-Ed addition, a valid Background screening, and complete SafeSport training.  This includes Coaches, staff, Board of Directors, volunteers for tournament armory, bout committee, and registration, Referees, and any adult assisting with minors at FIT or FIT tournaments. This also includes parents who help with classes.

USA Fencing Membership Categories of interest:

  • Access:  The Access Membership is for a wide range of individuals within the fencing community.  Access members can compete at all sanctioned local tournaments. In addition, you are eligible to vote in all USA Fencing division and national elections (must be 18 and current as of February 1), gain free admission to all USA Fencing National tournaments and receive a digital edition of American Fencing magazine. *In order to compete at Regional or National tournaments, Access Members must upgrade to the Competitive membership.
  • Competitive:  The Yearly Competitive Membership is good for the USA Fencing season from Aug. 1 through July 31. The competitive membership is valid for all USA Fencing-sanctioned competitions.
  • Life: Life membership is valid for the lifetime of the member. This membership includes the same benefits as a competitive membership.  It may be paid in installments (Life Installment) or as a one-time payment.

Step 2: Join our GroupMe Communication System

We use GroupMe to communication with our Students and Parents

SafeSport was mandated by Congress during the Gymnastic and Swimming scandals. All Olympic Sports fall under the SafeSport requirements.  In order to maintain a transparent communication system, our coaches are not allowed to contact a minor student directly by phone, text, or email.   All communications go through our GroupMe system and all transmissions are viewable by our Administration at any time.

Coaches send out general information to their students via their class code; FIT Administration sends out club-wide information concerning things like inclement weather closures etc. to General Membership.  You should join both.

Students under the age of 18 should not text or email their coach directly, nor should an adult unrelated to the student email or text a minor student without copying the parent or FIT Admin. You may download the GroupMe App from your app store for free.

Important payment and other policies are:

  • You are responsible for knowing the Rules of the Salle, Student Code of Conduct and Parent Code of Conduct posted in the club.
  • There are no makeup days. We price our programs based on a 4 week per month basis. When there is a 5th week, we use that as your vacation or sick day and don't charge for it.
  • Only the first month is prorated; subsequent months are paid in full if you participate 1 or multiple days.  The month is charged in full on the 1st.
  • We require a written 30-day notification the Business Office to cancel a membership (normal gym policy).  To clarify, to have your August payment stopped, you must notify the FIT business office no later than June 30th in writing (email is fine).
  • Gold Team (competitive team) members are contracted for the season (August 1st through July 31st.  If you are going to be gone for an entire month, notify the office 30 days in advance as above. You will pay 50% of your monthly training fees while you are gone.
