The Fencing Institute of Texas (FIT) provides quality foil and epee training, wheelchair fencing, Victorian (historical) fencing, Home School Programs, and off-campus PE instruction for the DFW area.
FIT is a non-profit school of fencing offering recreational through Olympic level training in foil and epee, parafencing, and historical (Victorian) fencing. We want you to be sure you are ready to join a beginner class, so if you have never fenced before, we recommend you take a reduced-fee, 30-minute Introductory Lesson with a FIT coach to see if you enjoy the sport. The Introductory Lesson is not for those who have fenced before.
Click here for more information on signing up for an Introductory Lesson.
After registering, you will receive an email with a URL and PIN along with additional instructions to schedule your lesson. These are done on Monday at 6:00 and 6:30 pm, and Saturday at 1:00, 1:30, and 2:00 pm.
A free Trial Membership with USA Fencing is required for the Introductory Lesson. This is free. Fill out the form and bring it to your lesson. Click here to access the form on the USA Fencing website.
Intro lessons may be scheduled now or in the future within a 3-month period. Refunds are not given. If you are unable to schedule your appointment within 3 months, contact us at info@fenceintexas.org prior to the end of the Intro Lesson membership and we can extend the end date. Requests after the Intro Lesson membership cancels are non-refundable and not extendable.
From beginners to champions, FIT has a program for everyone:
From youth to senior, from recreational to international competitors, from ambulatory to adaptive athlete, modern day or historical (Victorian), FIT has something for everyone. FIT is a designated Paralympic Sport Club for fencing and has produced numerous successful athletes at the national, international, and Olympic levels.
STRATEGIC DIRECTION – At FIT, we believe a successful athlete sets goals for themselves. In order to create the premier fencing club of North Texas, we developed some goals for FIT and FIT's coaches:
• To create and support a long-term athlete development model (ADM) to promote excellence and drive success in both competitive and recreational fencers
• To develop and sustain a coaching structure to support our athletes at all levels
• To increase participation in and improve the quality of fencing activities
• To provide, develop, improve, and maintain tools and resources for an effective fencing sport system, both recreational and competitive
MISSION – Our mission is to provide quality instruction in fencing and to pass on the life skills that prepare our athletes to be effective contributors to their schools, communities, and professional lives.
PURPOSE – To be the premier provider of instruction in the art of fencing at all levels while maintaining a standard of excellence in teaching both able-bodied and Paralympic children and adults; and to deliver consistent and professional instruction to all students in every class, so that every day they may further realize their maximum potential in this sport and in life.
VISION – To be known as the sport’s leading provider of quality instruction in the Dallas area and to consistently deliver outstanding instruction to the students we serve.
